Richard M. “Dick” Mueller | Richard Millard "Dick" Mueller was born February 6, 1937. He joined the US Navy October 25, 1954 right after the Korean Conflict and served eight years until October 24, 1962. He served actively aboard the USS McCaffrey (DD-860), a Gearing-class destroyer. traveling to Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean. In January of 1958 he transferred to the US Naval Reserve assigned to the US Naval Station in Newport Rhode Island. He attained the rank of Quartermaster 3rd grade. He married Cathy and raised his family on Edwards Avenue in Delanco. After his discharge, Dick went to work for Sunoco, where he worked until he retired. Dick and Cathy were very active in Delanco. Dick was elected to the Township Committee and served as Mayor. Cathy served on the Board of Elections. Dick was responsible for founding the Delanco Cultural Athletic Club, Delanco Youth Sports Association. He created Delanco’s tradition of celebrating Babe Ruth Day in the 1970s. He ended his long career of public service in 1997 and the Muellers retired to Florida. Cathy died in 2014. Dick was guest of honor when the Mueller Pavilion at Delanco's Field of Dreams was dedicated in 2015.
